Complex Chronic Disease

Complex Chronic Disease is that condition where an individual is living with more than one chronic disease at the same time. For example, heart disease and arthritis.

It’s called “chronic” because there aren’t cures for these diseases. This means people who have them will live with them for the rest of their lives.

It’s called “complex” because in many circumstances the treatments for one chronic disease react differently when combined with the treatments for another – or the diseases themselves may negatively impact each other or other parts of the body.

Believe it or not, Complex Chronic Disease is the number one condition that we are treating in healthcare today. Ironically, it’s the result of the success of modern medicine. It’s the new frontier of healthcare.
